I had the opportunity to work in a church prior to the exhibition there. To be secluded in another world was certainly challenging and inspiring. All kinds of ceremonies still have their echoes there. The unseen ran fleeting through the cracks of my mind in moments of silence. The human condition intrigues me. The capacity to hold and store individual and collective memories amazes me. Individual stories may differ, but the essence of events is similar. In some other form you and I experience the revelations, the turning points, the fears, the losses and farewells, the hopes, the great love, the courage and the mysteries. I could go on....
We make and hold our own myths, carrying them in our genes. With my paintings I try to touch the surface of these undercurrents, past and future, always present, but not always noticed.
My paintings are not intended to conceal or cover up, although it may seem so with the first impression. The challenge lies within the hidden elements of the paintings. They are composed around a certain hidden nature and ultimately could reveal what you possibly see into it. The 'stories' that you bring in are arranged around something that is hidden inside of you.
